Au Pair

An au pair comes to the UK to experience the culture and improve their English. The au pair is welcomed as a member of the family and helps with childcare and does light housework. The au pair has own room, full board and gets weekly pocket money. The au pair has opportunity to attend English classes in their free time.

The term au pair is French for ‘on par’ or ‘equal to’ indicating that the relationship between the host family and au pair is meant to be on equal terms rather than that of employer and domestic servant.

An au pair usually comes and stay with the host family for 6 – 12 months. Au pairs are also available for shorter placements and for 2 – 3 months during the summer.

Please read our General Guidelines for host families.
