Au Pair in Germany

Au Pair must be 18-26 years old


  • An au pair gets 4 weeks paid holiday for 12 month stay
  • An au pair has an opportunity to study German language – host family support this with an amount of 50€ for language course per month. Travel expenses to and from language courses are paid by the host family.
  • An au pair gets her own bedroom and + full board
  • An au pair gets pocket money 260€-300€ per month
  • An au pair gets a health insurance from the host family


What to expect

  • An au pair helps with childcare and assist in the household
  • Preparing breakfast and basic meals
  • Looking after the children, i.e. supervising them, playing with them and taking them to and back from nursery/school, activities and assisting them with their homework
  • Babysitting in the evenings
  • Doing light household work means to help clean up at home and keep things tidy, ie washing, ironing, laundry, daily shopping
  • Looking after the household chores and if any, taking care of the pets
  • An au pair works maximum 30 hrs per week
  • An au pair has 1-2 days off a week
  • Maximum of three babysitting in the evening per week
